Disclaimer
Participants need to be aware that parts of this walk are on natural or unformed bush tracks and you need to take appropriate care. 5 Lands Inc or any associated entity accepts no responsibility for any personal injury or property damage. All persons participate in this Walk at their own risk.
And please remember, the event is operated by volunteers from our community, operating on a very limited budget. Please understand if things go haywire from time to time or don't go quite according to plan. Being flexible and tolerant is part of the Spirit of the 5 Lands Walk.
Accessibility
The 5 Lands Walk uses informal walking tracks between MacMasters Beach and Terrigal. Large sections of the Walk present a physical challenge that mean they may not be suitable for wheelchairs, strollers and those who use walkimng aids. However there should be access to many of cultural events at each of the Lands.
There will be an accessible toilet available at the surf club of each Land (except MacMasters Beach which has ramp access to the club building but no specific wheelchair accessible toilet). There will be at least one accessible car space available in each surf club car park (you will need to display your disabled parking scheme permit). Beach wheelchairs will be made available at each Land and if you require the use of one please ask one of the 5 Lands Walk officials
On the day *
Bring a small bag for your rubbish. Please don't litter our beaches, bushland and communities.
* Watch where you walk - look out for slippery surfaces and when you cross the road.
* Keep alert to children with you.
* Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Layering your clothes so you can comfortably adjust your clothing depending on the weather as the day progresses is a good idea.
* Don't forget to throw in a bottle of water, a jumper and raincoat - and of course - your camera.
* Slip! Slop! Slap!
* Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints.
* Above all, enjoy the experience and do it at your own pace!
The weather
It is winter, and the weather can be brilliant - warm and sunny - or it can be cold, windy and rainy.
We've experienced it all, over the years - but the 5 Lands Walk goes on - regardless. In 2009, the MacMasters Beach pre-schoolers doing a firedance in the pouring rain and howling wind said a lot about the Spirit of the 5 Lands Walk.
And so did the beautiful weather in 2010, with the whales putting on a great display.
If the weather turns nasty, the event is still on and we'll adjust things to deal with whatever happens. So be prepared and come along, regardless - although a volcano at Avoca Beach may stop us - until the ash clears!!!
So bring a sun hat and a rain coat, and be prepared to be flexible if the weather throws a few obstacles at us.
Dogs are only permitted on leads in certain parts of the route, however there are many beach and public areas along the route that are "dogs prohibited beaches".
